Frank Iero and The Patience have worked up a short but tuneful EP titled “Keep The Coffins Coming.” Available everywhere September 22nd via BMG/Vagrant Records, KTCC is complete with four tracks that bridge the gap between “Stomachaches” and “Parachutes,” the band’s acclaimed debut and sophomore albums. If you got fifteen minutes to spare and are looking for those “pump you up” tunes for the weekend, then this is the EP for you to turn to. These four tracks are full of fast tempo guitar riffs with stellar pedal effects, erratic drumming and chest bumping bass that is all intertwined with vocalist Frank Iero’s powerful vocals and captivating charisma.
Immediately listeners feel the intensity of the four tracks with the opener, “I’m A Mess,” which is a recycle from “Parachutes” but with a more intense and raw approach. Pulling inspirations from early punk rock influences, Iero gives meaning to the song title. Iero explains lyrically the definition to what makes him a mess but it is the instrumentals that really make you feel the intensity with loud guitar amplifications and screeches. Toning it done for a little bit, "BFF" is where you can hear Iero’s similar playing and writing style to his late band, My Chemical Romance. The band’s ability to go from thrashy in “I’m A Mess” and “No Fun Club” to a more mellow vibe in “BFF” showcases their musical inspirations, individuality from what is main stream now and the desire to do exactly what they want and you can either take it or leave it. The real prize and showpiece comes in the final track “You Are My Sunshine.” The distorted intro and the guitar fuzzy gain pulls you into the classical rock era. And the title of the song is exactly what it is, the classic children’s song but with their own added twist turning it into a song of pain in Iero’s vocal range.
From having a more serious a mature release last year with “Parachutes,” “Keep The Coffins Coming” is a more fun and playful album for Frank Iero and The Patience. The band even sees it that way and that can be seen on the cover of the album because for this release, the band jokingly referred to themselves as FRANK IERO & ‘THE PATIENTS’ in light of their accident in Sydney, Australia last year. This EP is raw, energetic and carefree, everything you need to rage out and let loose.
