Commonwealth - Everyone Around Me
Label: SharpTone Records
Release Date: January 18, 2019
The last few months have been quiet for Commonwealth as they patiently were waiting to unveil their debut full length via SharpTone Records. Due to personal reasons, the band postponed the album for after the holidays which makes the importance of this release that more special to the members and those who've watched this band from the start. Life happened on life’s terms for these four and now that they’ve pushed through it, they can sit back and admire their reward and accomplishment which is the official release of Everyone Around Me on January 18th.
Commonwealth describes their work as “honest music for the worn out soul” and that is truly evident from start to finish. Each song is inspired by personal stories from the members themselves and others in their lives so the true and raw emotions are felt in each track. There’s so much pain and sadness bleeding through these lyrics which helps listeners really connect to the album but not every song is a somber one. “Runaway” and “Happy” are the tracks that prove there is light at the end of every dark tunnel. “Happy” was written for vocalist Tyler’s daughter and as a parent myself, I instantly attached to this song. Tyler shares beautiful and honest words of advice to his daughter that will bring actual tears to your eyes.
One of my favorite things about this album is that you can recognize guitarist Brett’s distinct sound right away. Brett has a way of bringing profound lyrics to life and carves them into your heart with his rhythmic guitar riffs. I appreciate how the band stayed away from writing repetition and each song has diversity from the next while still keeping the somber and melancholy tone present.
Everyone Around Me is a story that you won’t want to put down. Through these eleven songs, Commonwealth lay everything about themselves out on the table through sentimental lyrics spotlighted by adept and profound instrumentals. Even though 2019 just started, Everyone Around Me leaves a lasting impression that you’ll remember when it comes time for those AOTY lists.
