Calmgrove - “Give & Take”
Release Date: June 19, 2019
Words by: Alleen Hughes
Calmgrove’s newest single “Give & Take” went live today and the Southern California group unveiled a side to them we haven’t seen yet from their previous releases. The guys left the pop punk hooks out of this one and instead displayed a state of vulnerability.
The title alone gives listeners some foreshadowing as to what the message is behind the somber and melancholy track. Calmgrove describe the single as “a song about putting your all into a situation and not receiving any balance, compromise, or honesty in return”, and all of this is reflected and evident in vocalist Eric’s heartfelt lyrics and presentation. The instrumentals are subtle compared to their previous tracks and instead let the meaningful and personal lyrics take charge. To give more narrative to the single, Calmgrove teamed up with C3 Productions for a music video that gives the exact depiction of what it can feel like in a situation of constant “give and take.”
Calmgrove continue to keep me hooked with each single they release. If you’re wondering if their range in song style can translate live, well it does and you can check it out now for yourself below via our live set of their most recent show on June 15th at Chain Reaction in Anaheim, CA.
