Calmgrove - “Misery”
Release Date: April 24, 2019

Pop punk seems to be back on top this year and included into that list is Southern California’s Calmgrove. Keeping the consistency going, the 5-piece have released another upbeat single that is blowing their previous two out of the water. Masking their melancholy lyrics with warming and buoyant instrumentals, Calmgrove have a way of speaking and leveling with their listeners.
The band have stepped up their production game with “Misery”. I’m not sure what they did differently in the studio between single #1 and single #4 but “Misery” is Calmgrove’s best to date. “Misery” has its own identity and these guys have shown through all four tracks that they are not ones to put out anything recycled or repetitive from the previous. The single’s intro grabs your attention with heavy hitting percussions and lively guitar chords that don’t fizzle out. With the complement of Eric’s smooth vocals over boisterous instrumentals, Calmgrove keeps you enticed through the single’s entirety.
In a years time Calmgrove have improved in all areas and deserve a growth in their fan base. They have a good thing going for them and are marketing themselves well by keeping the new music coming at a steady pace. If you already became a fan based off the previous singles then anticipate becoming fully hooked with “Misery”. Keep them coming guys!
